WARD ATTENDANT REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Training for Adults (ABET) Level 3 or its equivalent Grade 5-7
No experience

WARD ATTENDANT Competencies, knowledge, and skills are as follows:

Be able to operate well under time constraints and demonstrate initiative.
A fundamental comprehension of policies such as the Batho Pele Principles, the Patients Right Charter, occupational health and safety requirements, the Six Priorities, and the National Core Standards.
A familiarity with the rules and regulations as well as the legal framework that pertain to supply chain management.

WARD ATTENDANT DUTIES:

Keeping the environment clean and creating order within the ward Make sure the disinfection solution is ready to go for the day.
After the patient has been demised, discharged, or transferred, carbonize the room and make the beds.
Boxes or receptacles should be prepared for the disposal of medical waste, and a red plastic bag should be placed inside each one.
Clearly label any containers, such as boxes or bins, and position them in the appropriate location for collection.
Ensure that the ward always has fresh garbage bags available.
Ensure that all parts of the ward are clean and kept clean at all times.

It is important to clean all of the ward’s equipment and furniture.
Clean medical equipment under supervision e.g., vital monitors, drip stands.
Replace the used toilet paper, hand towels, and soap that are found in the hand basins, bathrooms, and toilets.
Acquire, tally, document, and store the clean linen that was returned from the laundry.
Cleaning and securing contaminated linens after sorting.

Observe all guidelines and operating procedures.
Utilization of cleaning supplies in the correct manner Observe the dress code that has been recommended (protective clothing).
Ensure that the garbage is sorted in the appropriate manner.
When necessary, provide assistance with the messaging.
Restock, provide, or draw fresh sheets of linen.

Make certain that the kitchen has a clean atmosphere.
Ensure that the patients have access to water, ice, water bottles, and glasses at all times.
Cleaning of cooking and eating implements.
Maintenance and cleaning of the kitchen’s floor, cabinets, and walls are responsibilities.
Keeping track of the crockery and supplies in the unit kitchen and reporting your findings to the supervisor.
Make sure the food cart is ready, and then serve.
Assist nursing staff with the feeding of patients while remaining under their supervision.
Take out the garbage and clean up.

Clean the infant bottles (for lodger babies).
One time per week, defrost and clean all of the refrigerators in the unit.
Make certain that the Sluice Room maintains a tidy atmosphere.
Keep the sluice room clean and organized.
Urinals, bedpans, wash basins, and tiny bowls should all be cleaned.

Bedpans, urinals, the washbasin, and any tiny bowls should be disinfected.
In order to guarantee high-quality medical care, you will need to play a supporting role for the nursing staff.

The Z83 must be completed, initialed, and signed. The Z83 should list Department of Health as the advertised position (Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital).
DPSA Circular 19 of 2022 states that applicants must submit a fully completed Z83 and a detailed Curriculum Vitae but not copies of qualifications, service certificates, or other necessary papers.
