About this role
Mr Price Group is looking for a Computer Operator to join its technology team in Durban. The role helps keep the group’s IT environment stable, available and running as it should.
What you’ll do
- Monitor IT infrastructure, applications, networks, data transmissions, critical jobs and business services before problems affect users.
- Watch dashboards, alerts and system events to pick up issues that could disrupt a service.
- Run scheduled daily health checks across the environments you monitor.
- Look into alerts and do first-line troubleshooting. Escalate to the right team when needed.
- Log, manage and escalate incidents according to the group’s support and escalation processes.
- Work with internal technical teams and external vendors to investigate and resolve incidents.
- Keep clear incident updates and handover notes, and follow documented procedures and run controls.
What you need
- A relevant IT qualification, or be currently studying towards one.
- At least 1 year of experience in IT support, infrastructure, operations or monitoring.
- A good understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, servers and applications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with several technical teams.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot abnormalities or potential issues.
- Experience with or an understanding of IT monitoring tools (advantageous).
- Ability to work rotational shifts, including day and night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
Is this job for you?
This job suits someone who likes to prevent problems rather than react to them. You should be comfortable with IT systems, enjoy careful monitoring work, and be happy to work shifts that include nights, weekends and public holidays.
