The Department of Water and Sanitation is looking for a General Foreman in Voelvlei Scheme Gouda (Western Cape. It is a permanent post on salary level 4, paying R201 093 annum.

What you need

The official advert asks for:

• Grade 8 or relevant qualification.

What you’ll do

• Undertake routine maintenance on canals, sluices, measuring structures.
• Keep structures and their surroundings clean.
• Keep Gauge plates clean.
• Keep embankment in good condition.
• Clean and maintain grounds, repair tools and structures such as buildings, fences using hand and power tools.
• Drive truck at stationed scheme as well as to other sites within the Western Cape region.
• Cut trees and grass on at toe level on the embankment.
• Remove debris inlets- outlets structure.
• Holes in embankment must be reported.
• Stagnant water on the embankment and canals must be reported.
• Cleaning of Grids on the canal.
• Look for cracks in measuring structures and report defects.
• Inspect and repair fences.
• Report damaged equipment to other services providers for repair.
• Keep records of repaired equipment.
• Supervises subordinates and ensures that daily duties are completed effectively.
• Assist with housekeeping at DWS offices and infrastructure (i.e. grass cutting/cutting down trees/fire breaks).
