Process Relief Operator Utilities & Services 1

About this role

Sappi, a global producer of sustainable woodfibre products, is hiring a Process Relief Operator at its Ngodwana site. The role helps the production team cut down on overtime by covering for operators who are on leave or training.

What you’ll do

• Run process equipment safely and well, following standard operating procedures and production targets.
• Step in for operators in the positions you are asked to cover, doing all of their tasks.
• Hand over shifts properly and keep clear records of what happened, including incidents, problems and unfinished work.
• Watch equipment for breakdowns, faults and abnormal readings. Report them to the foreman or operating staff and help with fixes where needed.
• Take part in problem-solving work, including 5-Why investigations and improvement projects.
• Follow all SHEQ (safety, health, environment and quality) rules. Spot unsafe conditions, take part in behaviour-based safety observations and keep your area safe.
• Keep your work area clean and well organised.
• Attend training, coaching and progress meetings, and act on feedback to build the skills your section needs.

What you need

• Matric (Grade 12) with Maths and Physical Science, or an N3 in Pulp and Paper.
• A National Diploma in Pulp and Paper, Chemical Engineering or a related field (advantageous).
• 0 to 3 months of experience as a Process Trainee or Production Intern. No long work history is needed.
