About this role

Pick n Pay is looking for a General Merchandise Supervisor for its Lenasia store in Gauteng. You will oversee the daily running of the General Merchandise Department, so that shelves are well stocked, products are priced correctly, and customers get good service.

What you’ll do

  • Run the department: keep the area clean, organised and well presented, and allocate daily tasks so they get finished.
  • Manage stock: check stock levels, run stock counts, follow up on shortages and discrepancies, and place replenishment orders.
  • Watch slow and damaged lines: track slow-moving, damaged, missing and excess stock, and handle receiving, storage and rotation correctly.
  • Keep merchandising on standard: display products as Pick n Pay requires, check shelf labels and prices, and set up promotions and seasonal displays.
  • Lead your team: supervise, coach and motivate staff, track attendance and performance, and train people on standards and procedures.
  • Serve customers: handle queries and complaints, and pass unresolved issues to the right manager.
  • Report: prepare departmental reports and track sales, stock losses and targets.
  • Protect safety and stock: follow store safety and loss-prevention rules, watch for theft, and report hazards and incidents.

What you need

  • Grade 12 (matric) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Previous retail experience. Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in stock control, merchandising and inventory management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good numerical and administrative skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and experience with retail systems.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when needed.

Is this job for you?

This job suits someone who has worked in retail and enjoys running a busy floor. You should be comfortable leading a team, keeping stock accurate, and dealing with customers when things go wrong. If you like a hands-on role with clear targets, it could be a good fit.

Tips before you apply

  • Have your matric certificate and any retail or supervisory references ready to upload.
  • On your CV, give examples of stock counts, shrinkage or merchandising results you have helped improve.
  • Show your leadership with specific examples, such as how you trained staff, set shift schedules or handled a team issue.
