• Completion of Matric with a focus on Mathematics and Physical Science
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Should not have a fear of enclosed spaces or of great heights
• Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations
• Must not have a criminal record

• Must successfully complete the Firefighter 1NFPA 1001, Hazmat Awareness NFPA 1072, Hazmat Operations NFPA 1072, and First Aid Level 3 courses that are presented by the learning institution • Must not have a criminal record
• Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations

Principal Components of Performance

That the following is a mandatory fitness test, and that all candidates who have been shortlisted will be required to participate and succeed in it.
• Check your reach (1.9 m)
• 2.4 km run (Males 11 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
• Perform thirty push-ups in sixty seconds;
• Perform sixty sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
• Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m)

NOTE:

Applicants who are successful in the physical examination will be required to:

• Pass a written examination as well as an interview;
• Submit their fingerprints or identity numbers so that a background check can be conducted on their criminal records.
• Be required to submit to a mandatory drug test at a City testing center
• Be required to submit to a mandatory claustrophobia and acrophobia test (fear of confined spaces and fear of heights)
• Be required to pass a claustrophobia and acrophobia test (fear of confined spaces and fear of heights)
• Other criminal clearances will not be accepted.

Additional requirements for the post are as follows:

• Contract position that is not permanent for the duration of training;
• Candidates will only be appointed to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position upon successful completion of the prescribed training program;
• Required to wear a uniform and protective clothing at all times while on the job.

Certified copies of qualifications must be available on request.
