Artisan Gr 2 Mechanical Fitter

About this role

Sasol, the integrated chemicals and energy company, is hiring an Artisan Gr 2 Mechanical Fitter in Sasolburg, Free State. The role sits in a centralised maintenance team that services high-speed rotating equipment across Sasolburg Operations.

What you’ll do

• Carry out maintenance on positive displacement compressors, both reciprocating and screw types.
• Do fault finding on rotating equipment and its auxiliary systems, such as drip feeders, stuffing boxes and valves.
• Handle jobs from routine running maintenance up to full integrity inspections and complete overhauls.
• Work to quality plans and written procedures, and raise unsafe conditions with management.
• Plan basic job execution, including tools, consumables, spares, third-party needs and safety.
• Work from CMMS SAP work orders, or a similar system, and share your knowledge with colleagues.

What you need

• Grade 12 with maths and science, or N3 with maths, science and language (NQF Level 4). Required.
• Qualified as an Artisan Fitter at NQF Level 4, from Sasol or Olifantsfontein. Required.
• A valid Code 8 driver’s licence. Required.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining high-speed rotating equipment such as turbines or compressors. Required.
• Experience with reciprocating compressors, screw compressors, positive displacement pumps and centrifugal pumps (single and multi-stage). Required.
• Knowledge of how a refrigeration plant works, to help with compressor fault finding. Advantageous.
