About this role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a cashier for its Overport store in Berea, KwaZulu-Natal. The job keeps the till area running smoothly and gives customers a friendly, careful service at the point of sale.
What you’ll do
- Record every customer transaction on the Dis-Chem system, following company policies and standard procedures. Mistakes and fraud risks must be kept to a minimum.
- Take care of the money at your till. This includes cash handling, drop safe deposits and keeping the till secure.
- Accept all payment types, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons. Process loyalty cards, including the partner programmes Dis-Chem works with.
- Handle refunds and exchanges, but only when you have been authorised to do so. Line voids and price changes need your supervisor’s sign-off.
- Keep your login code and password private, and change them regularly.
- Pass customer complaints and compliments to your supervisor or store management. Watch for suspicious behaviour and report it.
- Keep up with current sales and promotions, and answer customer questions about store products.
What you need
- Grade 12 (matric).
- At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
- Good numerical skills and a strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Basic customer service skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport, or living close to the store.
- South African citizenship and a clear credit and criminal record.
- Advantageous: a third additional language.
Is this job for you?
This job suits someone who is honest, careful with money and calm under pressure. You should enjoy helping customers and be happy to work shifts that follow retail hours.
