About this role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is hiring a cashier for its store at Willowbridge (Tygervalley) in Cape Town. The job is about giving customers a smooth, friendly till experience while keeping every transaction accurate and safe.
What you’ll do
- Record every customer sale on the Dis-Chem system, following company policies and standard procedures. Accuracy matters here, and fraud risk must be kept to zero.
- Take payments of all kinds, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons. Process loyalty cards, including the partner schemes Dis-Chem works with.
- Handle exchanges and returns, but only when you have been authorised to do so. Get your supervisor to approve and sign off any line voids and price changes.
- Look after the cash in your till. Keep it safe, drop it in the safe as the procedures say, and talk about daily takings only with management.
- Keep your login code and password private, safe and changed regularly. Scan and pay for all items leaving the store.
- Pass customer complaints and compliments to your Frontline Supervisor or store management. Answer simple questions about store products and current promotions.
What you need
- Grade 12 / matric.
- At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
- Good numerical skills and a strong command of English, both spoken and written.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willing and able to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport, or living close to the store.
- South African citizen, with a clear credit record and criminal record.
- Advantageous: a third additional language.
Is this job for you?
This job suits someone with matric and some till experience who enjoys helping people and is careful with money. You should be honest, calm under pressure and happy to work shifts that follow retail hours.
Tips before you apply
- Have your matric certificate and proof of your 6 months of till experience ready, such as a letter from a past employer.
- Put your till experience at the top of your CV. Name the systems or cash registers you have used and the types of payment you have handled.
- Be ready to show your retail hours availability and how you get to work. Say this clearly in your application.
