About this role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a cashier for its store in Claremont, Cape Town. The job is about running the till well, giving customers a good experience and keeping cash and records accurate.
What you’ll do
- Serve customers at the till and help them with their shopping in a friendly, professional way.
- Record every sale on the Dis-Chem system, following company policy and standard procedures. Accuracy matters because errors and fraud risk are not tolerated.
- Take payments of all kinds, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons. Process refunds and returns only when you have been authorised.
- Look after the till. Keep cash safe, drop cash into the safe as per procedure, and get your supervisor to approve any line voids or price changes.
- Process loyalty cards, including those of Dis-Chem’s partner programmes such as Discovery Vitality, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks.
- Report customer complaints, compliments and any suspicious behaviour to your supervisor or store management.
What you need
- Grade 12 (matric).
- At least 6 months of cashier or till experience.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
- Good numerical skills.
- A strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Ability and willingness to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport, or you live close to the store.
- South African citizenship.
- A clear credit record and a clear criminal record.
- Advantageous: a third additional language.
Is this job for you?
This job suits someone who has already worked at a till and likes dealing with customers. You should be careful with money, honest, and calm under pressure. If you can work the store’s hours and get to work reliably, this role could be a good fit.
Tips before you apply

- On your CV, list your till or cash-handling experience first. Give numbers where you can, such as how many customers you served per shift.
