Security Guard

About this role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a security guard for its site in Randview, Johannesburg. You will provide a security service for the Dis-Chem Group. The aim is to protect stock, property and staff and keep the site safe.

What you’ll do

• Watch your surroundings closely, spot suspicious activity and deal with troublemakers according to the law and Dis-Chem procedures.
• Patrol the premises regularly to keep the site visible and lower the risk of crime.
• Control who comes in and out by vehicle or on foot, and let in only people who are authorised.
• Search staff, suppliers and merchandisers, and check bags and vehicles through the day.
• Keep registers and occurrence books up to date, and report damage, unlawful entry or unusual behaviour to management in writing.
• Lock up doors and windows at the end of each day, and handle the opening and closing checks.
• Monitor alarms and CCTV, respond to emergencies and help with evacuations.

What you need

• Essential: Grade 12 (matric or Senior Certificate).
• Essential: PSIRA Grade C accreditation, and you must be PSIRA registered.
• Essential: At least 3 years of general experience in the retail sector, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
• Advantageous: At least 1 year of experience in a similar security role.
• Essential: Good knowledge of PSIRA rules, plus fire emergency and health and safety training or exposure.
• Essential: Strong English, both spoken and written.
• Advantageous: A third language.
• Essential: South African citizen, with a clear criminal and credit record.
• A driver’s licence, your own reliable transport and a PDP are needed if you are deployed as a driver.
