About this role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a casual cashier for its Musgrave store in Durban. The role is about serving customers at the till and keeping every transaction accurate and secure.
What you’ll do
- Serve customers at the point of sale and build a friendly, professional relationship with them.
- Record every sale on Dis-Chem’s system, following company policies and standard procedures.
- Take all payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons, and process loyalty cards, including partner cards.
- Handle exchanges and returns only when you are authorised to do so. Get your supervisor to approve and sign off any line voids and price changes.
- Look after the cash in your till. Drop cash into the safe as required, keep takings confidential and report anything suspicious to management.
- Report customer complaints and compliments to your supervisor or store management, and answer questions about store products.
What you need
- Grade 12 (matric).
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience.
- Computer skills, including MS Office.
- Good numerical skills and a strong command of English, spoken and written.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport, or living close to the store.
- South African citizenship and clear credit and criminal records.
- Advantageous: a third additional language.
Is this job for you?
This job suits someone who is careful with money and detail, and who enjoys working with the public. You should be honest, calm under pressure and comfortable working set shifts that include retail hours.
Tips before you apply
- Have your matric certificate and proof of your till experience ready, with the dates and store names where you worked.
- Put your till experience at the top of your CV. Include any cash handling, POS or numerical work you have done.
- Show your accuracy with a clear example, such as a time you balanced a till or spotted an error before it caused a problem.
