About this role
The City of Ekurhuleni is looking for an Environmental Assessment Practitioner in the Environmental Impact Management section. The role protects the city’s natural resources by checking that environmental rules are followed and by assessing development proposals before they are approved.
What you’ll do
- Put environmental assessment practices into action to protect and conserve the city’s natural resources.
- Check that City departments follow environmental laws and advise them on the authorisations, permits and licences they need.
- Help answer queries about compliance with environmental legislation.
- Review and comment on development proposals, including land use, EIA-related, waste, water use and mining applications.
- Use the Environmental GIS to check development constraints and sensitive areas, and review applications against City policies and by-laws.
- Inspect sites, combine comments from other departments, and give the City’s final recommendation on each proposed development.
- Work with environmental consultants, applicants and the competent authority, and offer students a chance to link theory with practice.
- Manage the team’s performance, risks and budget so the division meets its targets.
What you need
- Grade 12 certificate.
- A degree in Natural Science, Life Science or Environmental Management at NQF Level 7 (Higher Education and Training, First Degree or Advanced Diploma).
- A valid driver’s licence.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar environment.
- You may be asked to show proof of your NQF level for the qualifications you hold.
