About this role

Faircape runs retirement and lifestyle villages across the Western Cape. It is hiring a Handyman for its maintenance team, based at Heritage Manor and Bridgewater Manor in Somerset West. The job keeps buildings, facilities and equipment safe, working and well kept for residents.

What you’ll do

• Handle day-to-day maintenance requests and fix faults quickly, from repairs in homes and communal areas to general estate facilities.
• Do minor building work such as plastering, painting, tiling and general handyman jobs, plus carpentry repairs and installations.
• Fix doors, windows, locks, hinges, handles and fittings, and do basic plumbing jobs like leaking taps, blocked drains and faulty toilets.
• Do basic electrical tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fittings, within your skill level and safety rules.
• Carry out routine inspections and deal with possible problems before they become bigger ones. Help with planned preventative maintenance.
• Care for hand tools, power tools and equipment. Check them before and after use, and report anything damaged or unsafe.
• Help move and install furniture, keep work areas tidy, and help the team with estate upkeep.
• Flag major repairs or qualified-contractor work to management, and help coordinate access for outside contractors.

What you need

• Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in a general maintenance or handyman role.
• Proven experience in general building maintenance and repairs.
• Practical knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical maintenance, carpentry, painting and tiling.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Ability to do physically demanding work and to work independently, setting your own priorities.
• Matric: advantageous.
• A relevant technical or maintenance qualification: advantageous.
• Experience in residential estates, retirement villages or property maintenance: advantageous.
• Clear health record, clear criminal record and clear credit record.
• Two written references. These are compulsory.
