Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver

About this role

Rohlig-Grindrod is looking for a Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver for its CPT Airfreight Branch, based in Sandton, Gauteng. The driver will move freight safely and keep the vehicle in good working order.

What you’ll do

• Drive a heavy motor vehicle on your daily route.
• Collect freight from customers and deliver it on time.
• Keep the vehicle maintained and report any faults.
• Plan your trips and choose the best option for each load.
• Follow the freight handling rules for each type of product.
• Take on ad hoc tasks as the branch needs them.

What you need

• Grade 12 (matric).
• A valid Code 14 driver’s licence.
• At least 5 years’ experience as a Code 14 driver in a related role.
• Knowledge of the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Act.
• Knowledge of local geography and routes.
• Understanding of freight movement requirements for specific products.
• Knowledge of vehicle specifications and carrier procedures.
• Advantageous: a customer service focus and the ability to handle a demanding customer environment.
• Advantageous: good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Advantageous: the ability to work on your own and handle pressure.
• Advantageous: the ability to communicate well and work as part of a team.
