Special Conditions
Required to rotate on the various heavy plant machines.
Required to work in all weather and ground conditions.
Required to work in an environment that consists of waste, leachate and contaminated liquids.
The incumbents must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and report for duty on weekends as and when required.
Duty hours may vary depending on changing requirements of the branch.
The incumbents may be required to commence work between 06:00 and 08:30.

Job Purpose
To operate all heavy plant within Durban Solid Waste fleet.
Key Responsibility Areas

• Operating various items of heavy plant such as Landfill Compactor, Bulldozer, Hydraulic
• Excavator, Front-end loaders, Vibratory roller, Grader, Articulated dump/ dump trucks, Service truck and Water Tanker.
• Operate the heavy plant in the right direction and angles to ensure efficient operation and prevent accidents and damage of property.
• Recording daily work output, hour meter/ odometer readings by completion of relevant production sheets.
• Representing management at disciplinary hearings by acting as witness.
• Mentor for employees in training/ new employees in the safe and efficient operation of construction equipment.

Essential Requirements

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code EC).
• Valid permit in the operation of heavy plant.
• 2 Years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

• 3 Years relevant experience.
