Maintenance Technician

About this role

Virgin Active South Africa is looking for a Maintenance Technician for its club in Mitchells Plain, Western Cape. You will keep the club’s equipment, buildings and pool in good working order, and lead the maintenance team that does the day-to-day work.

What you’ll do

• Plan and carry out preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, gym equipment and the building, and keep a full maintenance history.
• Log faults on the intranet system, report problems to operations and regional managers, and do repairs yourself where you can.
• Walk the club each day, check the job book, checklists and pool logs, and set the day’s maintenance tasks.
• Make sure the pool is checked, dosed and backwashed to the required standards, and that dosing systems never run dry.
• Manage projects and contractors from start to finish, check their work, sign off job cards and follow up on snag lists.
• Control the maintenance budget, keep stock at the right level, and order through the e-procurement system using preferred suppliers.
• Lead, schedule and train the team, manage shift rosters and leave, and make sure health and safety rules are followed.

What you need

• Experience in technical maintenance, preferably in a commercial or leisure facility.
• Experience managing a maintenance team, contractors and a budget.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, gym equipment and swimming pool systems.
• Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSH Act).
• Ability to use a computer-based maintenance or stock system and an intranet log.
• Willingness to be available for call-outs and telephonic support.
