OFFICER OF EMERGENCY CARE GRADE 3 LEVEL (REPLACEMENTS)

LOCATIONS:

  • Lothair Emergency Medical Services Station (X3 Posts),
  • Leandra Emergency Medical Services Station (X3 Posts) (Gert Sibande District),
  • Nkangala Emergency Communication Centre (X2 Posts) (Nkangala District)

OFFICER OF EMERGENCY CARE REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent. certification as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant. Registration as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) (2023).
Registration that is up to date with the HPCSA (deposit slip will not be accepted).
Transporting patients requires both a driver’s license (C1) without any endorsements and a valid professional driver’s permit (PrDP).
Candidates are required to demonstrate their driving ability as well as take an evaluation test.

Having the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills:

The individuals who fill these positions will be responsible for providing pre-hospital treatment that falls within the parameters of Intermediate Life Support and transporting patients to the appropriate health facility in an effort to reduce the number of people who lose their lives as a result of medical emergencies.
They will report to the EMS Station Manager: Emergency Medical Services. Candidates who meet this requirement will be considered ideal.

Required knowledge of Intermediate Life Support Protocols.
A knowledge of emergency medical services (EMS) and the industry it serves is necessary.
Having a fundamental understanding of medical rescue is essential.
A thorough understanding of the Road Traffic Ordinance’s Rules and Regulations is required.
A strong ability to communicate is required.
Have practical patient management skills.
Have the ability to carry out procedures in case of an emergency.

Possess the ability to work effectively under time constraints.
Have the ability to function in any environment that contains emergency medical services, including emergency ambulances, obstetric ambulances, inter-facility ambulances, communication centers, and patient transport services, according to the assignments or deployments made by EMS management.

OFFICER OF EMERGENCY CARE DUTIES:

Patients need to be treated, stabilized, and transported in accordance with the Intermediate Life Support scope of practice as outlined by the HPCSA Protocols.
Respond to any and all calls that have been sent out by the Communication Center or that have been requested by other medical professionals in order to assist with the treatment of patients receiving Intermediate Life Support.
Maintain the highest possible clinical standards in accordance with current best practices, while also keeping up with your CPD (continuous professional development) (CPD).

Maintain both the vehicle and the medical equipment inside of it, check the vehicle and the equipment that has been allotted to you, fill out the checklist, and report any losses, damages, or discrepancies to the shift leader.
Wash, clean, and disinfect the interior as well as the exterior of the vehicle, and make sure that the vehicle is always kept in a clean condition and in proper working order.
Ensure that all of the surgical sundries and medical gases are used before their expiration dates, as well as change and replenish the supplies.

Contribute to the upkeep of a spotless and well-organized station.
Before the end of the shift, or whenever else it may be necessary, ensure that all necessary paperwork is finished and handed in to the Shift Leader.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle and equipment are handed over to the following shift or relevant authority fully restocked, clean, and in good working order.
Observe the Standard Operating Procedures established by the EMS.

Participate in a meaningful way in the training and quality control programs.
Carry out any additional responsibilities that have been assigned to you by the supervisor. Candidates are required to work a variety of shifts and must be in good mental and physical health in order to carry out their responsibilities.
