Operation Control Centre Engineer

About this role

South32 is hiring an Operation Control Centre (OCC) Engineer for its open-cut Mamatwan manganese mine near Hotazel in the Northern Cape. The role is permanent and full-time. It exists to keep the mine’s daily operations on plan, safe and productive.

What you’ll do

• Lead and manage the OCC team and its processes, so they line up with the Mine Plan.
• Review and improve mining, mine planning and fixed plant processes and systems, including critical safety controls.
• Help build and carry out short-term mine plans, covering daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
• Make the best use of the load and haulage fleet through the Fleet Management System.
• Manage contractors as the Single Point of Accountability (SPA).
• Support LEAN and continuous improvement work across the site.
• Design simple, standard systems that support change projects, managed locally.

What you need

• A degree, BTech or National Diploma in Mining Engineering.
• Grade 12.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a mining or improvement environment.
• At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role.
• Proven knowledge and practical use of LEAN, Root Cause Analysis / PPS and FMECA methodologies (essential).
• Solid knowledge of surface mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mine information systems, including Excel, Power BI, Microsoft Office, SCADA, fleet management systems and visual management tools.
• Experience with SAP (advantageous).
