Operator SLS Assistant

About this role

Sappi is hiring an Operator SLS Assistant at its Mandeni site in KwaZulu-Natal. You will support the SLS operator in running the spray dryer and bagging plant, helping to produce good-quality product in the right quantities.

What you’ll do

• Inspect plant equipment regularly to check it is safe to use.
• Prepare the spray dryer, decanter and stack centrifuge for start-up and shutdown, following the standard operating procedures.
• Run the bagging plant and the equipment that goes with it.
• Fill SLS powder bags to the correct mass, seal them, label them with barcode tags and check production as it runs.
• Clear blockages in lines, pumps, rotary valves, the scrubber and the decanter, and collect samples for lab testing.
• Help the SLS operator with plant isolations, problem solving and reporting faults or non-conformances.
• Follow SHEQ rules, spot hazards, take corrective action and keep your work area clean and tidy.

What you need

• Matric and/or an N3 Pulp and Paper Certificate (4 subjects) and/or a relevant NQF Level 4 qualification.
• At least 6 months of plant operations experience.
• Computer literacy, including MS Office.
• Willingness to follow reasonable instructions from the foreman and SLS operators.
