Quantity Surveyor

About this role

The City of Ekurhuleni is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to advise on the cost of projects. You will help estimate project costs and keep track of them from the start of a project until it is finished. The work follows set standards, procedures and policy.

What you’ll do

• Measure completed work regularly so that payments can be planned and processed.
• Draft the monthly payment certificates for projects.
• Review standard contract documents so they line up with CIDB, GCC, NEC, JBCC, FIDIC and MFMA requirements.
• Prepare and carry out quality contract assurance audits.
• Help project management with contract documents and, where needed, with evaluating tenders.
• Check that financial processes follow internal control and governance rules, and report any deviations.
• Flag changes to standards to the Project Engineer, Technologists and Technicians, and escalate governance, risk and compliance problems that stay unresolved.
• Share what you learn about processes and systems with your colleagues, and support the Batho Pele principles in service delivery.

What you need

• Grade 12.
• A degree in Quantity Surveying at NQF Level 7.
• 5 to 8 years’ experience in a relevant environment.
• Proof of your NQF level may be requested.

Is this job for you?

This job suits a qualified Quantity Surveyor who has spent several years on construction or infrastructure projects. You should be comfortable with contract documents, cost control and audits. You should also be able to work within a public sector governance framework.
