Job Description

Introduction
This position will be based in the Saldanha Bay Municipality area in the Western Cape.

Description
The purpose of the position is to implement, maintain and monitor adherence to SHEQ policies and procedures to ensure compliance to site, client specific and legislative requirements.

Qualification Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification registered at NQF Level 4, including relevant NATED courses (e.g., N3 Certificate) where applicable.
  • National Diploma in Safety Management or related SHEQ qualification.
  • Health and Safety Management Certification (I.e., SAMTRAC/ COMSOC/ NEBOSH, etc.).
  • Incident Investigation Competency (ICAM, RCAT, etc).
  • Risk Management (HIRA). 
  • Sound knowledge of MHSA, OHSA, and relevant SANS/ISO standards.

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an operational environment
  • Computer Literate in MS Office
  • Presentation and report writing skills
  • Legal Liability Training
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Training
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Training
  • ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management Training
  • OHSAS 18001 Training

Duties and Responsibilities

Establish a Safety Culture

Implement and manage the Minopex SHEQ Management System on site

Ensure that the site complies with the requirements of the Minopex SHEQ Management System

Enforce compliance to legal requirements, i.e. right to stop dangerous work etc.

Ensure all legal appointments are valid according to legislative requirements

Ensure that the medical surveillance certificates are up to date

Conduct plant and equipment inspections, report the finding to management and follow up on reports as required by legislation

Manage all Safety, Health and Environmental Representatives activities on site

Ensure compliance to contractor packs and manage sub-contractors to ensure compliance when required

Maintain all SHEQ related information on the safety management system to ensure effective and up to date information

Manage all injuries and ill health incidents on site, i.e. reporting, investigation and ensuring all documentation are completed

Co-ordinate and control COID (Workmen’s Compensation) documents according to requirements

Compile and submit reports according to internal and external client requirements

Facilitate the risk assessment process according to organisational requirements (baseline and issue based)

Facilitate and participate in the site audit processes

Coordinate the compilation of all procedures and safe operating procedures on site

Manage nonconformance and incident reporting and investigation processes

Manage access control where applicable
