Shop Assistant / Cashier

About this role

Clicks Group is hiring a shop assistant and cashier for its store in Hartenbos, Western Cape. The job focuses on smooth point-of-sale work, good service on the shop floor and neat, well-stocked displays.

What you’ll do

• Run the till accurately. Scan items, take payments and process clubcard rewards.
• Handle cash safely at all times.
• Tell customers about the clubcard and sign up new members to help the store reach its targets.
• Share current promotions with customers so they know about specials and deals.
• Keep the shop tidy and maintain merchandising to the store’s and brand’s visual standards.
• Stay up to date on products, ranges and in-store events so you can answer customer questions correctly.
• Act as a friendly, professional face of the brand while you work on the floor.

What you need

• Grade 12 (required).
• Maths and English at 50% or higher at Grade 12 level (advantageous).
• Experience in a customer-facing role in a retail or FMCG store (advantageous).
• Basic maths and numeracy skills.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Good communication skills and a strong focus on the customer.
• Planning, organising and problem-solving skills.
• An understanding of stock management and basic merchandising and promotions.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.

This job suits someone who likes working with people and enjoys helping customers. You should be comfortable handling cash, working on a till and keeping a shop floor neat. If you have some retail experience, that will help, but it is not a must.
