Technical Officer: Bus Service Operations Depot Vehicle Maintenance

About this role

The City of Ekurhuleni is looking for a Technical Officer for a bus service operations depot. The role keeps buses safe and running by checking reported faults, arranging repairs and handling the technical admin behind them.

What you’ll do

• Inspect faults reported by bus drivers in the defect register and judge how serious each one is.
• Refer buses for repairs and check that the work was done as ordered.
• Reconcile the weekly repair report from the mechanical workshop against the workshop orders.
• Renew vehicle licences every year and keep the depot’s certificate of fitness register up to date, warning the workshop before certificates expire.
• Handle technical claims for glass, all risk and injury on duty.
• Supervise the technical assistant, general assistants and shedman so the bus service runs smoothly.
• Keep records of every tyre fitted to depot vehicles and send a monthly report to the Depot Manager.
• Investigate accidents and recommend bus drivers for training where needed.

What you need

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Trade test in Diesel Mechanic.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a diesel mechanic.
• Relevant supervisory experience.
• Be ready to show proof of the NQF level of your qualifications if asked.
