Cashier

About this role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a cashier for its Ballito Lifestyle store on the Dolphin Coast in KwaZulu-Natal. The role keeps the checkout running smoothly and makes sure every customer gets good service at the till.

What you’ll do

• Record every customer sale on the Dis-Chem system, following company rules and standard procedures.
• Take payments of all kinds, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons, and process loyalty cards from Dis-Chem’s partner programmes.
• Handle returns and exchanges only when a manager or supervisor has allowed it.
• Look after the cash. Keep the till secure, drop cash into the safe as required, and keep daily takings confidential.
• Get line voids and price changes signed off by your supervisor before they go through.
• Pass customer complaints and compliments to your Frontline Supervisor or store management, and answer questions about store products.
• Spot and report anything suspicious, and follow the company’s security rules.

What you need

• Grade 12 (matric).
• At least 6 months’ experience working a cash register or till.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
• Good numerical skills.
• Strong English, both written and spoken.
• Basic customer service skills.
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
• Reliable transport, or living close to the store.
• South African citizenship.
• A clear credit record and a clear criminal record.
• Advantageous: a third additional language.
