Cashier

About this role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for cashiers to work at its stores in the KuGompo City area of East London. You will handle sales at the till and help customers have a smooth, friendly shopping trip.

What you’ll do

• Serve customers at the till and keep to Dis-Chem’s customer service rules.
• Record every sale on the Dis-Chem system, following company policy and standard procedures. Accuracy matters, and errors and fraud must be avoided.
• Take all payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons. Process loyalty cards, including partner cards such as Discovery Health, eBucks and ABSA Rewards.
• Look after the cash in your till. Put cash in the drop safe as set out in the procedures, and keep your code and password private.
• Handle refunds and exchanges only when you have been authorised to do so. Get your supervisor to approve and sign off any line voids or price changes.
• Pass customer complaints and compliments on to your supervisor or store management. Answer simple questions about products and current specials.
• Spot and report suspicious behaviour, and follow the store’s security rules.

What you need

• Grade 12 / matric.
• At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience.
• Good computer skills, including MS Office.
• Sound numerical skills.
• A strong command of English, both written and spoken.
• Basic customer service skills.
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
• Reliable transport, or you live close to the store.
• South African citizenship.
• A clear credit record and a clear criminal record.
• Advantageous: a third additional language.
