About this role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a casual cashier for its store at Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role keeps the till running smoothly and gives customers a good shopping experience at the point of sale.
What you’ll do
- Record every customer transaction on Dis-Chem’s system, following company policies and standard procedures, with close attention to accuracy and fraud prevention.
- Take payments in all accepted forms, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons, and look after the cash in your till.
- Process loyalty cards, including the partner programmes such as Discovery Health, Medihelp, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks.
- Handle returns and exchanges, but only when a supervisor has authorised them. Line voids and price changes also need supervisor sign-off.
- Scan and pay for all items leaving the store, and keep your login code and password private.
- Pass customer complaints and compliments to the frontline supervisor or store management, and report anything suspicious.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service, security and 5 star communication principles, and keep up to date with current sales and promotions.
What you need
- Grade 12 (matric).
- At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Good numerical skills and a strong command of English, written and spoken.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
- Knowledge of cash registers and handling cash drawers, and an understanding of sales, refunds and payments.
- South African citizenship, reliable transport or living close to the store, and clear credit and criminal records.
- Advantageous: a third additional language.
