Clinical Nurse – Experienced Cardio Thoracic Scrub Theatre

About this role

Netcare is looking for a Clinical Nurse to work in Theatre at the UCT Private Academic Hospital in Cape Town. The role focuses on cardio thoracic scrub work, and the nurse takes responsibility for planning and giving patient care from start to finish.

What you’ll do

• Assess, plan, carry out and record advanced nursing care in your specialised field, following Netcare standards, SOPs and medical direction.
• Lead emergency treatment when needed, in any ward or department of the hospital, within your scope of practice.
• Work with doctors on ward rounds and help build and update care plans for each patient.
• Keep communication clear with patients, families and the wider health team, and speak up for the patient when needed.
• Help with staff allocation, shift handovers and daily records, including patient status and staffing levels.
• Support the unit’s safety and quality goals, including the safe use of supplies and equipment, and help train and orient new staff.

What you need

• Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
• Experience in theatre and cardio thoracic scrub work is required for this experienced post.
• Comfort with electronic patient records, e-scripts and clinical orders, as Netcare moves to digital systems.
