About this role

Netcare is looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse to join the Emergency Department at Netcare Moot Hospital. The role covers assessing, planning and giving nursing care to patients, and helping families and the wider care team.

What you’ll do

  • Act as a clinical resource for your unit. Help colleagues assess, plan, give, record and review nursing care.
  • Lead emergency treatment (resuscitation) for any patient in the hospital, quickly and within your scope of practice.
  • Take patient histories, judge immediate and long-term needs, and build individual care plans.
  • Do ward rounds with doctors, and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team on treatment plans.
  • Keep shift handover notes that show patient status, staff ratios and problems. Keep the unit manager informed.
  • Help set patient care policies and procedures. Keep the unit safe, clean and secure, and use supplies and equipment well.

What you need

  • Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles.
  • Experience in emergency nursing is implied by the post title “Experienced”, so expect the panel to look for a proven record in an emergency department.
  • Comfort with electronic patient records, e-scripts and digital clinical systems (advantageous, as Netcare is moving to CareOn).

Is this job for you?

This job suits a registered nurse with solid experience in emergency care. You should be calm under pressure, able to work as part of a team, and keen to train and support newer staff.

Tips before you apply

  • Have your SANC registration certificate and current practising details ready to upload.
  • List your emergency department experience clearly on your CV, including the types of cases, resuscitation work and the size of teams you have worked with.
  • Show examples of training, mentoring or orientation you have done for other nursing staff.
