About this role

Netcare is hiring a Clinical Nurse for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Netcare Unitas Hospital. You will plan and give individual nursing care to critically ill patients, support their families, and work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary health team.

What you’ll do

  • Assess, plan, carry out, evaluate and record advanced nursing care for patients in the unit, following hospital standards, SOPs and medical direction.
  • Start and lead emergency treatment (resuscitation) when needed, for any patient in the hospital, within your scope of practice.
  • Do ward rounds with doctors, help build care plans, and keep families informed and involved.
  • Guide and support other nurses and students, and take part in training and orientation for new staff.
  • Plan staff allocation and adjust staffing levels to match patient acuity.
  • Write shift handover reports covering patient status, staff-to-patient ratios and problems, and keep the unit manager informed.
  • Help keep the unit safe, clean and secure, and make sure supplies and equipment are used safely.
  • Use Netcare’s digital systems, including the CareOn electronic patient record, e-scripts and clinical orders.

What you need

  • Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). This is essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
  • Experience in a specialised nursing field, such as intensive care, is an advantage.

Is this job for you?

This role suits a registered nurse who is calm under pressure and comfortable making quick clinical decisions. You should enjoy working closely with doctors, families and other nurses, and you should be keen to keep learning. It is a good fit if you want to grow in a specialised paediatric critical care setting.

Tips before you apply

  • Have your SANC registration certificate and current practising details ready to upload.
  • Describe your PICU or critical care experience in detail, including the types of patients you cared for and any resuscitation work you led.
  • Show your training record, such as resuscitation certificates and any in-service or mentoring work you have done.
