Diesel Mechanic

About this role

TWK Agri, a well-known agricultural business, is recruiting a Diesel Mechanic for its Timber division in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The job keeps the vehicles, machines and equipment at the woodchip plant and related operations running well and with as little downtime as possible.

What you’ll do

• Build and keep up a full maintenance plan for all plant vehicles, machines and equipment.
• Schedule services, inspections and component replacements according to OEM specifications, and make sure the right spares arrive on time.
• Do daily spot checks, plus weekly greasing and washing of machines.
• Find mechanical faults, trace their causes and carry out mechanical and auto-electrical repairs.
• Do welding and fabrication work to keep equipment working, and maintain petrol-powered grass-cutting equipment where needed.
• Keep accurate service records and equipment history, and log daily HRS meter readings on all mobile equipment.
• Take stand-by duty across the woodchip plant and ship-loading operations, and look after tools and plant assets under company policy.

What you need

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal).
• Hydraulic and/or auto-electrical training.
• 8 to 10 years of experience with agricultural or heavy diesel equipment.
• Experience with Bell, Terex, JCB or similar machinery.
• Skills in diesel engine, hydraulic and auto-electrical diagnostics, welding and fabrication, and preventative maintenance.
• Heavy and light vehicle driver’s licences.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (advantageous).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to handle seasonal workloads and urgent repairs.
• Fluent English.

Is this job for you?

This job suits a hands-on mechanic with years of heavy diesel experience. You should be comfortable working on large plant machinery, handling urgent breakdowns and working shifts or stand-by duty when the operation needs you.
