Engineering Assistant High Voltage Plant Management

About this role

Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity utility, is hiring an Engineering Assistant for its HV Plant team in the Southern Grid business unit. The post is based at Dealesville in the Free State. The job keeps high voltage plant and related equipment safe, organised and well maintained.

What you’ll do

• Run the day-to-day operating service for high voltage plant.
• Carry out maintenance work on plant and equipment, including switchgear.
• Do regular inspections and report on what you find.
• Make sure all work follows safety, health and environmental rules.
• Mentor and coach junior team members.
• Keep documents and configuration records up to date.
• Monitor conditions and activities that are not linked to outages.

What you need

• Trade Certificate in Electrical (Light Current or Heavy Current) at NQF 4 with 120 credits.
• At least 2 years of electrical experience.
• Certificate to carry out maintenance under HV plant certification requirements.
• Knowledge of plant and equipment, local operating procedures, planning and operating procedures, and work site requirements.
• Knowledge of the Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
• Strong organising and planning skills, and good analytical and communication skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Professionalism, honesty, integrity and trustworthiness.
• Team spirit, with coaching and mentoring ability (advantageous).
