Handyman

About this role

BCE FoodService Equipment is looking for a Handyman to look after its head office in the West Rand, Johannesburg. You will keep the inside and outside of the building in good working order, so daily operations run smoothly with little disruption.

What you’ll do

• Carry out general repairs, minor electrical work, painting, plumbing tasks and small handyman jobs, including fixing leaks, clearing blocked drains and hanging pictures.
• Handle scheduled, emergency and ad-hoc maintenance, following set standards.
• Keep floors in good condition and make sure toilets and washrooms work every day.
• Repair and replace door locks and handle other basic carpentry work.
• Check and test emergency lighting and backup power regularly, and maintain and check the generators every month.
• Inspect the inside and outside of the building and the parking areas daily. Replace lights and ballasts that are not working, and build preventative maintenance plans.

What you need

• Grade 12 (minimum).
• A technical qualification (essential).
• Technical matric (advantageous).
• 2 to 3 years of working experience, including practical repair and building maintenance work.
• A valid code 8 driver’s licence.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (advantageous).
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems (advantageous).
• Good customer service and negotiation skills, and sound problem-solving ability.
• Strong attention to detail, a process-driven approach and the ability to work under pressure.
• Willingness to work overtime within reason and to be on standby when needed.
