IT Trainee

About this role

TWK Agri, a company in the agriculture sector, is looking for an IT Trainee in its IT division in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role is for someone who wants to learn hands-on IT support while building skills on the job.

What you’ll do

• Answer user questions through the IT Helpdesk, both remotely and in person, and help solve hardware, software, printer and connection problems.
• Log and update support tickets on JIRA, and pass harder problems on to IT Technicians.
• Set up, configure and deploy desktops, laptops, printers and mobile devices, including preparing equipment for new staff.
• Help with hardware upgrades, replacements and routine equipment checks.
• Assist with installing and maintaining network equipment, including basic Wi-Fi, switch and cabling work, and report network faults.
• Keep IT asset registers up to date, label equipment correctly and help with stock control.
• Follow company IT policies and security rules, and complete your training and certification goals.

What you need

• Matric / Grade 12.
• A certificate, diploma or some studies in Information Technology, Computer Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Network Administration or a related IT field (advantageous).
• Previous IT support experience (advantageous).
• Internships, practical training or academic projects in IT (advantageous).
• A basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft 365 applications.
• An understanding of networking basics.
• Knowledge of printers and mobile devices.
• Basic IT troubleshooting skills.

Is this job for you?

This role suits someone who has finished matric and enjoys fixing technical problems. You do not need years of experience. You should be keen to learn networking, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity and end-user support, and happy to work with a mentor.
