Legal Advisor

About this role

Discovery is looking for a Legal Advisor to join its Group Functions team at the Sandton head office. The role protects the Group’s legal interests and supports the success of its businesses through sound contract and commercial advice.

What you’ll do

• Advise the Group on contracts and commercial matters in line with Discovery’s strategy.
• Review, draft and negotiate contracts, amendments and templates for growing business ventures, making sure they follow the law and company policy.
• Solve contractual and commercial problems, and manage short and long term commercial ventures.
• Give clear, practical legal advice to business teams, and brief attorneys on referred matters.
• Manage the Group’s Intellectual Property portfolio, including IT and IT project contracting.
• Run training sessions for internal teams on procedures, contracts and legal topics.

What you need

• A completed LLB degree.
• At least 5 years of relevant legal experience.
• Experience dealing with multiple external partners (essential).
• Experience in financial services and IT contracting (advantageous).
• Strong negotiation, analytical and financial skills.
• Good knowledge of local and international market trends, and the ability to build relationships.
• Ability to work independently, with strong organisation and problem-solving skills.
