News24, South Africa’s leading source of trusted news, is looking for a skilled multimedia journalists to join our team in Johannesburg. If you are a newshound with experience in a digital newsroom and passionate about producing richly reported visual stories, this may be the job for you!

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We want a journalist confident in recording, editing and field-producing in various environments under tight deadlines. Someone who is passionate about news and current affairs and has experience in independently creating news features from pitch to publication using video and audio as well as a wide range of editing techniques. You will be expected to create, package as well as repurpose video and audio content. There will also be an opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues in the newsroom. Furthermore, the candidates should be detail oriented, deadline-driven, and be comfortable working both in a team and independently – you’ll be expected to lead and be led on various multimedia projects.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS AND ATTRIBUTES:

• Cultivate a diary with original story ideas daily

• Pitch, develop, shoot and edit video and audio stories
• Excellent English-language writing: you’ll be expected to draft voiceover scripts, subtitles, headlines, and captions
• Rich research and interviewing skills
• An advanced-level understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop &Audition)
• Can present a strong showreel and portfolio showing news experience
• Be able to work nights and weekends when required: occasional travel outside the province or the country may be required

SKILLS THAT WOULD BE AN ADVANTAGE:

• Experience in live streaming
• Experience in Adobe After effects and motion graphic
• Ability to use Pro Tools

QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism/media studies.
• At least 3 years’ experience in a digital news environment.
• A valid driver’s licence; successful candidates with automatic licences will be expected to get a manual certification.
