Production Officer - Seed Processing

About this role

VKB Group, an agricultural company with roots in farming, is hiring a Production Officer for its Seed Processing Plant in Reitz, Free State. The plant supplies certified seed to producers across South Africa. This role keeps seed production on track from planning through to packaging and delivery.

What you’ll do

• Plan seed production and check progress against approved schedules.
• Oversee sieving, seed treatment, packaging and storage in the plant.
• Make sure processes meet VKB policies, SANSOR rules and ISTA regulations.
• Control stock levels and keep product traceability accurate.
• Coordinate seed sampling, testing, grading and certification.
• Keep in regular contact with seed producers about production, deliveries and quality.
• Manage overtime, staffing levels and labour efficiency, and prepare production reports.
• Coach and train plant staff to build their skills and prepare them for future roles.

What you need

• A diploma or degree in Plant Production, Agronomy, Botany, Agriculture or a related field.
• Registration as a Field Inspector with SANSOR, or willingness to get it.
• Certification as a SANSOR Sampler, or willingness to get it.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in seed production, seed processing or seed certification.
• Experience working with SANSOR systems and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in inventory management and production planning.
• Experience supervising or leading operational teams in an agricultural processing setting.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Fluent Afrikaans and English, both spoken and written.
• Advantageous: Qualified Seed Analyst and Grain Grader.
• Advantageous: Fumigation experience.
