You will lead the group’s main macroeconomic stress testing model, run regular and ad hoc stress tests, and support capital risk work across the bank.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design, build, monitoring and improvement of stress testing models, including the MEFM model, and set the modelling standards your team follows.
- Review and challenge the technical work of your team, and make sure models meet governance and quality requirements.
- Oversee the quarterly and ad hoc runs of the MEFM model, and the delivery of regulatory and industry-wide stress tests such as the SARB Common Scenario Stress Test.
- Guide the bank’s climate-risk stress testing and scenario analysis work.
- Support ICAAP, capital planning, risk appetite, recovery and resolution planning with analysis and stress test insights.
- Present stress testing results to senior management, governance committees, the Board and regulators.
- Run the secretariat for the Stress Testing Technical Forum, including agendas, minutes, meeting packs and the action log.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of quantitative analysts, including performance management and succession planning.
What you need
- An Honours degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in a quantitative field such as quantitative finance, financial mathematics, statistics, econometrics, actuarial science or data science.
- At least 6 years of quantitative analytics experience in financial services, covering risk modelling, stress testing, forecasting, capital management or a closely related area.
- At least 6 years of programming experience, with strong Python skills and experience in one or more of R, MATLAB, SAS or SQL.
- At least 3 years of managing, leading or formally overseeing quantitative professionals.
- Experience building, governing and explaining models in a controlled financial services environment.
- Experience engaging senior management, governance committees, regulators, auditors or model validation teams.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of banking regulation, prudential capital frameworks, ICAAP and risk appetite.
- Advantageous: a Master’s degree in a relevant quantitative finance or risk discipline.
- Advantageous: Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF). These are seen as key differentiators.
- Advantageous: CFA, data science, artificial intelligence or machine learning qualifications.
- Advantageous: Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
- Advantageous: practical knowledge of climate scenario analysis and climate-risk stress testing.
