Security Guard

About this role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a security guard for its site in Kagiso, Johannesburg. The role protects the company’s stock, buildings, and staff by keeping the site safe and spotting criminal activity or trouble early.

What you’ll do

• Watch your surroundings closely, spot suspicious activity, and deal with troublemakers within your legal powers and Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.
• Patrol the premises regularly so the site stays visible and risks stay low.
• Control entry for vehicles and people, and let in only those with the right authorisation. This includes searching staff, suppliers and merchandisers.
• Check the opening and closing of the site, including locking doors and windows and making sure taps are off.
• Keep registers and occurrence books up to date, and write detailed reports on incidents, damage or unlawful entry.
• Monitor alarm systems and CCTV cameras, and help during emergencies, evacuations and crises by contacting the right authorities.

What you need

• Grade 12 (matric or a Senior Certificate).
• PSIRA registration with Grade C accreditation.
• At least 3 years of general exposure in the retail industry, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
• Advantageous: at least 1 year of specific experience in a similar role.
• PSIRA knowledge, plus fire emergency and health and safety training or exposure.
• Strong English reading, writing and speaking skills.
• Advantageous: a third language.
• South African citizenship, a clear criminal and credit record, and a valid medical fitness certificate (MIE).
• A driver’s licence, your own reliable transport and a PDP if you are deployed as a driver.
