Security Guard

About this role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a security guard in Springs, Gauteng. You will work across the Dis-Chem Group sites to keep staff, customers and property safe. The job is about spotting risks early and responding in the right way.

What you’ll do

• Watch your surroundings closely, spot suspicious behaviour and deal with troublemakers within your legal powers and Dis-Chem procedures.
• Patrol the premises regularly to keep the area visible and lower the risk of loss or injury.
• Control entry to the site for vehicles and people. Only let in those who are authorised.
• Search staff, suppliers and merchandisers, and check goods leaving the site.
• Open and close the site, check that doors and windows are locked, and check the water taps.
• Keep registers and occurrence books up to date. Report incidents to management in writing, and call the police or emergency services when needed.

What you need

• Essential: Grade 12 (matric or Senior Certificate).
• Essential: PSIRA Grade C accreditation and PSIRA registration.
• Essential: At least 3 years of general exposure in the retail industry, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
• Essential: PSIRA knowledge, plus fire emergency and health and safety training or exposure.
• Essential: Good reading, writing and speaking skills in English.
• Essential: South African citizenship, a clear criminal and credit record, and a medical fitness certificate (MIE).
• Advantageous: At least 1 year of specific experience in a similar role.
• Advantageous: A third language.
• Advantageous: A driver’s licence and your own reliable transport. A PDP is needed if you are sent out as a driver.

Is this job for you?

This job suits someone who is alert, calm under pressure and comfortable following strict rules. You should already have retail or mall-based security experience. You should also be happy to work shifts, including nights or on your own.
