Tech Officer: NFO Customer Facing

About this role

Telkom’s Openserve division is looking for a Tech Officer based in Vredendal, Western Cape. The role focuses on installing, recovering, repairing and maintaining customer premises equipment on the Openserve network, with the aim of giving customers a good experience.

What you’ll do

• Plan installation, recovery, repair and maintenance jobs, from receiving the details to closing the job.
• Install, recover, repair and maintain business voice and non-voice systems, single line products, modems, Telkom Mobile equipment, payphones and value-added products.
• Work on indoor and outdoor cabling, including copper and optic fibre, LAN cabling and distribution points.
• Test equipment and do onsite or remote programming before signing off each job.
• Keep customers updated on progress and build professional relationships with customers, technical specialists and service providers.
• Complete compliance checks, quality inspections and surveys, and keep records and reports up to date, including work orders and routine site visits.

What you need

• NQF 4 (Grade 12, National Senior Certificate or National Certificate (Vocational)). NQF 3 is also listed, such as Grade 11 or N3 with relevant modular training.
• 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience. The advert also asks for experience in network field operations.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Knowledge of single line, broadband and mobile technologies, and of installation, maintenance and repair procedures.
• Skills in technical equipment handling, cable networks, planning, organising, computer literacy and technical problem solving.
• Willingness to travel and stay away overnight.
• Physical fitness for outdoor work, working at heights and in confined spaces. You must also have normal colour vision.
• Advantageous: knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment (SHE) standards.
