Job Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree (NQF 7) in Food Science or Food Technology,
• 3 to 5 years of work experience in the laboratory environment/Food Industry 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Excellent laboratory skills
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
• Ability to conduct relevant analytical procedures in accordance with recognised methods
• Ability to remain motivated when conducting repetitive laboratory procedures
• Strong analytical ability and ability to interpret results
• Attention to detail when undertaking tasks
• Organized and results-driven
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Adaptable and shows initiative to develop further academically
• Ability to independently conduct laboratory projects

 Summary of duties

• Conducting of practicals, ordering, receiving and controlling of stock
• Involvement in consultancy work/ third stream income generation
• Maintaining GLP in the laboratory
• Interpreting results and generating accurate, analytical reports according to specified methods and procedures
• Keeping up to date with scientific and research developments in the field of Food Science
• Preparing and updating of SOPs
• Assisting with the execution of routine activities and continuous improvement of methods and processes within the laboratory
• Supervision of laboratory assistants and routine cleaning
• Performing other duties within the bounds of the competency level of the post as prescribed by the HOD
