14 counts of murder have been brought against the 22-year-old driver who was involved in the Vanderbijlpark collision that killed 14 students.

At first, Ayanda Dludla was accused of culpable murder (caused the death by negligence).

However, the National Prosecuting Authority said that he would face murder charges after his initial court appearance at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning.

He is also charged with operating an unauthorized car, driving without a legal permission, and one count of attempted murder.

When IOL News arrived, there was a significant police presence outside the court.

Members of the local community, civil society organizations, and political parties gathered close by, holding signs that said, “We condemn reckless driving,” and expressing support for the victims’ families.

There are now 14 people dead from the crash after Gauteng police revealed earlier today that two additional students had passed away from their wounds.

A truck and a scholar transport vehicle were involved in the terrible collision, which rocked Gauteng and the entire nation.

To confirm the number of deaths and injuries, officers went to the mortuary and hospitals.

According to Masondo, the passenger was hurt and is being treated at the hospital, while the truck driver was unharmed.

Police are gathering witness accounts and evaluating the events leading up to the incident as part of ongoing investigations. Official confirmation of the accident’s cause is still pending.

With calls for tighter enforcement of traffic regulations and better control of learner transport services, the tragedy has reignited worries about road conditions and the safety of student transit.

As the lawsuit progresses, more information is anticipated to become available.
