Artisan Assistant

About this role

VKB Group, an agricultural company with roots in farming and food production, is hiring an Artisan Assistant in Reitz, Free State. The role sits in its Engineering Services team, which keeps grain handling and storage facilities running safely.

You will help artisans maintain, repair and improve silo equipment, conveying systems and electrical installations. You will also travel to other VKB and silo sites when needed.

What you’ll do

• Help artisans with preventative and corrective maintenance jobs.
• Support electrical maintenance tasks under supervision.
• Assist with mechanical repairs, installations and equipment servicing.
• Join inspections of silos, structures, valves, chutes and related infrastructure.
• Do cutting, grinding and basic welding where you have been trained and authorised.
• Help with fault-finding and basic troubleshooting.
• Keep tools, equipment and work areas clean and tidy, and follow health and safety rules at all times.

What you need

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 (required).
• Practical experience in both mechanical and electrical maintenance work (required).
• Experience using hand tools and maintenance equipment such as grinders, drills and spanners (required).
• Basic troubleshooting ability in electrical and mechanical systems (required).
• Experience working in physically demanding environments (required).
• Basic welding, cutting and grinding skills (required).
• Understanding of health and safety requirements and the ability to read and follow work instructions (required).
• A valid trade certificate (advantageous).
• A valid driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Exposure to maintenance, repair, fabrication or related technical work (advantageous).
• Comfort working at heights, in high dust, and climbing stairs regularly.
