About this role
Sasol, the global chemicals and energy company, is hiring an Artisan Grade 2 Instrument Mechanician at its Secunda Operations site in Mpumalanga. The job focuses on keeping assigned machinery running safely and reliably, and on fixing equipment quickly when it breaks down.
What you’ll do
- Monitor and control the machinery assigned to you so that it runs safely and reliably.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults, including emergency repairs, and carry out planned preventive maintenance.
- Use the plant maintenance documentation and planning systems, and feed correct history back so spares and upgrades are planned well.
- Work to safety standards: complete risk assessments, identify hazards, follow emergency procedures and help with root cause analyses.
- Take part in daily morning meetings, toolbox talks and performance reviews, and give feedback to your supervisor on progress.
- Share your knowledge with junior artisans, mentor learners and help write work instructions.
What you need
- Grade 12 or N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science and English.
- An Instrumentation Red Seal occupational trade qualification or certificate.
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Knowledge of the plant or equipment in your discipline, and the ability to read and apply task risk assessments.
- Strong skills in plant equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, planning and organising, and taking responsibility for your work.
- Advantageous: experience acting as a group leader, or taking the lead on team tasks.
Is this job for you?
This job suits a qualified instrument artisan with solid field experience. You should be comfortable working on live plant, thinking through faults under pressure, and helping less experienced people grow. Good safety habits matter as much as technical skill here.
Tips before you apply
- Have your Grade 12 or N3 results, your Red Seal certificate and your driver’s licence ready to upload.
- On your CV, list your instrumentation work with dates, the plant types you have worked on and your fault-finding examples.
- Show your experience with specific examples of safety work, such as risk assessments or root cause analyses, and of any time you trained or guided junior artisans.
