About this role

Implats (Impala Platinum) is hiring a Boilermaker Plater for an underground operation in the North West. The role covers cutting, shaping, welding and maintaining metal parts used in mining work.

What you’ll do

• Follow safety rules, mine standards and work procedures. Report any non-compliance you see.
• Attend regular safety meetings and suggest changes that improve safety.
• Inspect your work area often, report hazards and recommend fixes.
• Build and keep good working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders.
• Weld carbon steel and other workpieces using MIG, TIG, oxy-acetylene and gas metal arc methods, in all positions.
• Read and draw simple engineering drawings, and use welding symbols and definitions correctly.
• Check, use, maintain and look after engineering hand tools.

What you need

• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, or NQF Level 4.
• A recognised relevant trade qualification, or an NTC 2 specialised course.
• 3 years of boilermaker experience in a mining environment.
• Knowledge of basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
• Knowledge of engineering materials, their features and uses, and common metal tests.
• Knowledge of fabrication principles, welding principles and how welds are tested.
• Basic awareness of customer service.
