General Assistant Cashier

About this role

Clicks Group is looking for a General Assistant Cashier for its store in KwaMakhi, in the Midlands area of KwaZulu-Natal. The role is based at the point of sale, where you help customers pay for their goods and make sure each sale runs smoothly. It is a good first step into a retail career.

What you’ll do

• Run the till and point of sale tasks quickly and accurately, from scanning items to taking payment.
• Handle cash safely at all times and follow the till procedures.
• Tell customers about current promotions and offers.
• Give friendly, professional service and represent the brand well on the shop floor.
• Keep your section tidy, packed and stocked, following store and visual merchandising standards.
• Keep up to date with products, ranges and promotions, and share what you learn with relief staff.

What you need

• Matric / Grade 12, or an equivalent qualification.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• At least 6 to 12 months of experience in retail or a customer-facing role. Willingness to learn is also accepted.
• Strong customer service and good communication skills.
• Attention to detail when scanning, pricing, packing and rotating stock.
• Good teamwork and the ability to stay calm in busy shops.
• Advantageous: experience in customer service and basic cash handling.
• Desirable: short courses in customer service or retail basics such as cash handling and merchandising.
• Desirable: basic knowledge of health, safety and security practices, and some awareness of stock loss prevention.
• Desirable: familiarity with POS systems or card and cash payments.
