About this role
Vodacom is looking for an IoT Product Architect to join its IoT line of business at the Vodacom Campus in Midrand. The role builds the technical foundations for Vodacom’s Smart Utilities offering, so that proposals and customer work rest on solid, reusable capability.
This is a specialist role. You will not own customer-specific solution design. Instead, you give product and domain guidance to opportunity teams, especially on large tenders and strategic pursuits.
What you’ll do
- Define and maintain reusable Smart Utilities architectures, including domain blueprints, integration models, implementation patterns and technical standards.
- Package Smart Utilities technologies, partner capabilities and internal enablers into clear offerings. Areas include smart metering, digital water management, non-revenue water, revenue protection, telemetry, smart buildings, energy management and utility analytics.
- Provide technical input to bids, tenders and RFPs. This covers technical response content, methodology sections, architecture diagrams, scope clarification and compliance input.
- Coordinate technical contributions from partners and help assess whether they fit each opportunity.
- Support pre-sales work, including discovery sessions, customer workshops, technical presentations and demonstrations.
- Check that proposition and marketing narratives are technically sound and supported by real capability.
- Answer technical governance queries and explain Smart Utilities design positions to governance forums.
- Build reusable assets such as capability statements, playbooks, templates, FAQs and one-page solution summaries.
What you need
- Experience in Smart Utilities, IoT, telecoms, digital infrastructure, managed services or a related technology environment.
- Good technical understanding of smart metering, utility data flows, connectivity, platforms, hosting, integration and security.
- Experience supporting complex bids, pre-sales engagements and technical proposal development.
- Cisco CCNA or an equivalent certification.
- CompTIA Network+ certification.
- A relevant diploma or three-year degree (advantageous).
- TOGAF 10 (advantageous).
- Utility, municipal or infrastructure-sector experience (advantageous).
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to non-technical audiences.
Is this job for you?
This role suits a senior technical specialist who knows the Smart Utilities space well. You should enjoy turning complex technology into clear, reusable material, and you should be comfortable working with sales, product, proposition and partner teams.
Tips before you apply
- Have your certificates ready, including CCNA, Network+ and any TOGAF or degree documents, so you can upload them quickly.
- Show your bid and pre-sales work on your CV. Name the tenders, RFPs or customer workshops you contributed to and your part in them.
- Include one or two examples of reusable assets you created, such as architecture templates or solution summaries, and explain how they helped a team.
