About this role
Vodacom is looking for a Principal Specialist Power to be based in Bryanston, Gauteng. The role is responsible for power compliance across the MAST power portfolio, so that installations, upgrades, maintenance and vendor work meet legal, engineering and customer requirements.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain the power compliance framework, standards and procedures for AC and DC telecom power, including grid, generator, rectifier, battery, solar, earthing, protection and monitoring.
- Set minimum compliance and acceptance criteria for new builds, upgrades, battery and generator projects, solar deployments and site modernisation.
- Turn statutory and engineering requirements, such as SANS and IEC standards, into practical checklists, inspection criteria and field work instructions.
- Plan and oversee compliance audits, inspections and assurance work across operational and project sites.
- Check workmanship, test records, as-built documents and compliance evidence before sites are handed over or kept in operation.
- Track non-conformances to closure and spot repeat findings so that root causes are fixed.
- Review power designs and technical submissions for compliance, safety and risk, and give specialist advice on deviations and incident investigations.
What you need
- A Bachelor’s Degree or BTech in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 8 years or more of experience in a senior specialist, governance, quality assurance or compliance role.
- Telecom, TowerCo or critical infrastructure experience, ideally in multi-tenant sites and vendor-delivered work.
- Strong practical knowledge of AC and DC telecom power, including rectifiers, batteries, generators, distribution, earthing and protection systems.
- Proven experience running technical audits, inspections, handovers, quality assurance and contractor performance management.
- Working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and relevant IEC or EU standards for electrical installations in telecom environments.
- Advantageous: registration with a recognised engineering body.

- On your CV, show each year of senior compliance or governance work and name the types of power systems you have signed off.
