About this role
MTN is looking for a Senior Software Developer for its software solutions team in Roodepoort, Gauteng. You will build, test and support software that keeps MTN’s systems stable and useful to customers and internal teams.
What you’ll do
- Deliver clean, efficient and maintainable code that follows agreed standards, within agile sprints.
- Take part in the full development cycle, from requirements and design through to testing, deployment and maintenance.
- Help estimate and prioritise user stories, and join sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.
- Design and build new microservices in a container environment, and work across more than one cloud platform.
- Keep systems stable, reduce downtime and fix complex technical problems by finding their root causes.
- Protect data privacy and meet security and regulatory requirements in every solution you deliver.
What you need
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Electronics and Communication.
- Advantageous: a postgraduate degree in Computer Science or Networks, or an equivalent professional qualification.
- 7+ years of relevant work experience.
- 4 to 5 years as a full stack, frontend or backend developer.
- Strong skills across the full Java technology stack, backed by projects you can show.
- Solid knowledge of web technologies, APIs and web services.
- Good knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database management systems.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies, design patterns and best practices.
- Advantageous: experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Advantageous: experience with emerging telecom software technology and telecom systems, protocols and standards.
